Kitab Dairat al-Ma'arif is a historic book that stands as the first modern encyclopedia written in the Arabic language. 📚 Founded by the scholar Butrus al-Bustani, the project began publication in Beirut in 1876 with the help of his family. 📅 The encyclopedia was designed to centralize global human knowledge, covering topics from science and history to geography and literature. 🌍 All entries in this massive encyclopedia are meticulously arranged in alphabetical order to make information accessible. 🔤 Although publication continued until 1900, the work remains historically incomplete, spanning 11 volumes and ending at the Arabic letter ʿAyn (ع). 🏁
