The geographical reference work Manjam al-Umran fi al-Mustadrak ala Mu'jam al-Buldan was compiled and arranged by the Syrian scholar Muhammad Amin al-Khanaji. First published in 1907 (1325 AH) by the Al-Sa'ada Press in Cairo, Egypt, it functions as an essential, multi-volume supplement to a classical text. The book was specifically written to update and expand upon Mu'jam al-Buldan, the famous 13th-century geographical dictionary by the medieval scholar Yaqut al-Hamawi. Structurally, it follows the traditional alphabetical order to introduce locations, cities, and concepts that were either missing from the original encyclopedia or required modern geopolitical updates. Ultimately, this academic work bridges the gap between historical Arab geography and modern 20th-century discoveries, featuring entries on updated world regions such as Africa and Europe.
